Weekend Warrior Blog from Laura and Pete

Hi all!
Exciting News about the First ‘Weekend Warrior’ Training Camp
This weekend has been the first ‘Weekend Warrior’ training camp in Teignmouth, Devon.
Friday 29th May
Weekend Warriors David Wilby, Peter Pickering and James Sands arrived from London on Friday 29th May at 13.15.
They then cycled to Pete’s flat for lunch and a briefing for the weekend, followed by a core session. Next on the agenda was a cycle to their holiday park for a video analysis swim session in the pool and then a familiarisation run!

Saturday 30th May
Feeling pretty fresh after Friday, Pete and Laura knocked on the boy’s caravan door at 7am for a core session, followed by a sea swim. Lovely Julia joined us for this Open Water Swim (OWS) skills session. One hour later, we were out on our bikes for a 40km skills ride up Mamhead hill, via Dawlish, Starcross and the back of Powderham Castle. Julia came along to this session too! We practiced group skills and had a time trial along the way! Back in Teignmouth, the boys had the afternoon to nap, rest and go out for dinner at The Ness! Pete went round at 8pm to discuss their swim video analysis.
Sunday 31st May
Another early start at 7am, we had a run technique session at the boy’s caravan park which proved to be brilliant at helping with body position and pacing.
At 11am, the ‘weekend warrior’ lads had a swim session in Teignmouth lido. They requested a CSS (critical swim speed test during this session!).
We started on the long ride (60km) up Haytor at 1.30pm, it was a windy and challenging ride but great fun, especially since the sun came out in the afternoon. David and James followed the ride with a run off the bike around the caravan park.
Pete went round about 8pm for a final briefing (and bottle of beer!).
Monday 1st June
Laura picked up the boys at 7am for a cycle to Teignmouth Beach and a run along the Sea Wall. Pete then met them at 10am for transition practice.
Testimonials!
When asked how to describe the camp in three words, here’s the answers we got:
David: “Tough, confidence-building and fulfilling”.
James: “Rewarding, hilly, informative”.
Peter: “Very challenging, informative, enjoyable”.
