Hello all,
Last month, we welcomed you to the new monthly PeteWilbyTriathlon blog. This month, we will update everyone on what has been happening this August and mention upcoming events in September. We will also mention our plans for Perpignan and the winter weekend training camps.
August has been a great month for racing. Brennan Townshend, Pete and Laura competed in the Liverpool Standard distance triathlon. Pete finished in 2:03:58, Brennan in 2:07: 26 and Laura 2:35: 49. Brennan also participated in the Weymouth classic triathlon. His time was 2.12.55 making him 2nd overall and 2nd in his category. Laura competed in the Torbay 10k and finished 1st in age group, 7th overall, in 41.29. Brennan Townshend and Neil Castree are both set to race in the Cotswold half ironman on Sunday.
September looks to be filled with a number of races too, particularly open water swimming (OWS) events. A number of athletes will be competing in the 3k and 5k Geopark sea swim, the Agatha Christie One Mile Sea Swim, The River Dart 10k and the Dawlish Triathlon. We will be at Geopark, Agatha Christie and Dawlish, either participating or watching and supporting all of you! At Dawlish, we are providing the opportunity for athletes and spectators to enter a free prize draw competition. So look out for us- and point people in our direction! Good luck and see you there!
Tips for racing open water:
- Wear a brightly coloured swim hat and make sure your goggles aren’t leaking before you race
- Flush your wetsuit before starting the swim
- Keep calm by repeating relaxing words in your head such as, “calm” “relax” or use the “bubble, bubble, breathe” technique
- Remember to sight!
- Draft if you want to- try not to get caught up in the middle of swimmers though
- And, of course, enjoy!
Finally for this month, another reminder about our weekend training camps in Perpignan:
What we are offering:
- Free accommodation for up to four people
- You can choose the coaching services you would like to use
- Beautiful areas for cycling and running
- Milder climate for OWS
- Local swimming pool for coached swim sessions
- Option of Video analysis with feedback from the coached sessions
We would love you to come out and train with us!
Happy Triathlon-ing,
Laura and Pete
