September Blog

This month’s blog post congratulates all athletes who have competed in various events this September.

Firstly, Julia came second in her age group at Skipton sprint distance triathlon in 1.26.33 and is training to compete in the Snowman Sprint triathlon on October 5th 2014. Julia has been a great supporter of everyone this month- she came down to watch both Dawlish triathlon and the Agatha Christie one mile sea swim to cheer competitors on!

Secondly, a big weldone to Helen, Row, Sophia and Nic who completed the River Dart 10k on Sunday 14th September in 3 hours 3 minutes. Helen said:
“It was tough but we're proud of our whole team for all making it! Happy to say that Pete’s help in the pool and in the sea really helped preparing us for the day.  Putting the time in in the choppy sea also helped lots!  His advice regarding stroke and technique improvement also helped get us through!”

It would be great if you girls have any advice for other athletes thinking of training for Open Water swimming and any hints and tips you may have picked up from this marathon swim!

Helen went on to compete in Dawlish triathlon on Sunday 28th September and performed equally well. She came 54th overall and 25th in her age category with a time of 1.41.28. She competed along with David Snow, Garry Brenton, Neil Castree, Lou Raymond and Sam Bourner. Neil came 25th overall and certainly didn’t disappoint with his famous sprint finish! His time of 1.17.59 put him 6th in his age category. Weldone Neil!  Garry finished 126th overall in a time of 1.28.08 and finished 36th in his age category. Lou finished 61st overall and 31st in her age group in 1.43.29. Sam’s time was 1.50.22, 75th overall and 38th in age group. David Snow finished 250th overall and 25th in his age group.

Congratulations also to Gerry and Lumen who completed the Agatha Christie one mile sea swim at Broadsands on Sunday 21st September and raised money for Devon Air Ambulance. Lumen only learned to swim seven months ago and flew through this one mile open water swim. Gerry is equally at home in the sea- in fact, she was so determined during her training for this swim, she braved a storm for one sea swim session. Amazing ladies!

Carrying on with the results of some of the girls this month, Laura completed the 3k Geopark swim on Sunday 7th September and was first female out of the water. She also completed the Irongirl (4.2km run) in Austria and came fourth in 16.02.

Finally, we are off to Argeles-sur-mer, Perpignan, France! Training camps are still available so if you fancy a cycle in the Pyrenees this winter- this is the perfect opportunity! Pete will still be available to do training plans and will be back on 8th January for his usual coaching services. In the meantime, keep us updated with events and training! We will continue this blog and it would be great if you could email, skype, facebook or tweet us too!

Happy triathlon-ing,

Pete and Laura x
